Action to be taken against 10 identified proxy teachers
KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 25 (MExN): Marking a significant milestone in educational accountability, the Nagaland State Social Audit Agency’s Social Audit Unit conducted the second phase of the District Level Social Audit Public Hearing under the Samagra Shiksha scheme for Longleng district, for the fiscal year 2022-23.
The exhaustive audit encompassed 24 schools situated across 13 villages, including Yongam, Yongshei, Shamshanching, Yongnyah, TanghaSanglu, Pongo, Hongnyu, Yongphang, Auching, Sakshi, Yimchong, and Yangching, a DIPR report stated.
Moian Avennoho, chairperson of the programme and Assistant District Coordinator for Samagra Shiksha in Longleng, extended a cordial welcome to the officials and participants. During her opening address, she set the tone for the proceedings, emphasizing the significance of the social audit in promoting transparency, accountability, and community involvement within the educational framework.
Assistant Director of NSSAA, Social Audit Unit, Imlirenla Sanglir further underscored the importance of adhering to proper procedures and guidelines to ensure the realization of inclusive and equitable quality education.
Dr Samuel Akho Konyak P, EAC Longleng & in-charge of Yongnyah Circle representing the District Administration, expressed his concern regarding the existence of proxy teachers detected during the social audit process. He assured that appropriate corrective measures would be initiated and emphasized the imperative need to rationalize the distribution of teachers across different districts to maintain a balanced ratio conducive to effective education delivery.
Representatives from the Samagra Shiksha State Office, led by Imlikokba Aier, Sr. Accountant (SMO), gave explanation and clarification on various issues raised by the house during the hearing. The diverse gathering included officials from ADC office, DEMO (SS), head of schools, teachers, SMC, SMDC, village functionaries, parents, student representatives, VLOs, and media personnel.
The presentation of findings during the public hearing was conducted by District Resource Person, Toshimanen Jamir. He meticulously addressed issues identified during the social audit, ranging from teacher shortages and the presence of proxy teachers to inadequate facilities and safety concerns within the schools. The ensuing discussions led to the passing of a number of resolutions aimed at instigating corrective measures to address the identified challenges.
Among the resolutions, the house decided that immediate action would be taken towards identified proxy teachers in GPS/GMS Auching (3 proxy teachers), GHS Sakshi (1 proxy teacher), GMS Yongam (4 proxy teachers), GPS Hongnyu (2 proxy teachers).
It mandated the EBRC to coordinate and regularly monitor schools to ensure effective implementation of educational programs. SMDC & SMCs, with community contributions, were also tasked to assist schools in provisioning clean drinking water for schoolchildren.
It resolved to rationalize the distribution of teachers posted in different districts, with consultation from respective District Education Offices. It also emphasized the construction of separate toilets for boys and girls in schools to ensure sanitation and hygiene.
