Meriema Village Choir wins first Cantus Choir competition

Meriema Village Choir clinched the championship, while Botsa Village Choir secured the second position in the first Cantus Choir Competition held at Dzüü Resort, Rüsoma Village on Sunday. 

The victorious choirs were awarded a trophy each along with cash prizes of Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000, respectively.

The 1st Cantus Choir-cum pre-Christmas celebration was organised by Dzüü Resort, Rüsoma, and the office bearers of the 11th Northern Angami II A/C Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP).

The song for the competition was ‘Lord Bless You and Keep You.’

Seven choirs from seven villages in the Northern Angami II area participated in the competition. These villages were Tsiesema village, Chiechama village, Botsa village, Zhadima village, Rüsoma village, Chiephobozou, and Meriema village. 

The judges were Medokhrieü Pfukri, Music Director CRMC and Doxa Music Academy; Khriebeinuo Keditsu, Music Director Meriema and a teacher at Chieli Music Academy and Serene Melodia; and Mengunuo Zumu, former Music Director and teacher at G Rio School & Serene Melodia. The competition was judged on five criteria, namely diction, stage presence, originality in presentation, rhythmic accuracy, and conductor’s ability.

Meanwhile, the focal point of the Christmas message by Letuolie Pienyü, Pastor, CRC Pezielietsie, Kohima was ‘Whom do men say that I, the Son of man, am? And who do you say that I am?’ from Matthew 16: 13-15. 

He challenged the congregation to recognise the true identity of Jesus Christ, discover the transformative power of genuine faith, and commit to following Jesus with all our hearts. 

Vibeilitui Kets, Special Assistant to Chief Minister, gave away the awards and lit the Christmas lights.
