Dimapur, September 7 (MExN): The NSCN/GPRN (Niki) and Government of India (GoI) have mutually decided to extend the Ceasefire Agreement signed between the two for another year with effect from September 8, 2023 to September 7, 2024.
The Ceasefire Agreement has been extended to bring about a lasting peace in the State of Nagaland with the involvement of Naga people, read the agreement document, appended by Piyush Goyal, Secretary to the GoI, Ministry of Home Affairs; Abel Zingrü Thuer, Supervisor, Cease Fire Supervisory Board (CFSB), NSCN/GPRN (Niki); and Uketo Z Chophy, Secretary CFSB, NSCN/GPRN (Niki).
The Ceasefire will be subject to adherence to the Ceasefire Ground Rules mutually agreed to and signed by the two sides, it said,
The Ground Rules will be subject to mutual review and amendment with the involvement of both the parties and both parties accordingly append their signatures on September 6, it added.
The GoI and NSCN/GPRN (Niki) first entered into a Ceasefire Agreement on September 8, 2021 for one year, enabling the latter to formally join Indo-Naga peace process. It was later extended in September 2022.
The NSCN/GPRN (Niki) is led by its president Gen Niki Sumi (Retd).
