BJP Nagaland State President, Temjen Imna Along today expressed optimism that a collective decision will be taken early regarding the demand of Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) for the reduction of the viva-voce component of the Combined Staff Recruitment Examination 2022 from the proposed 12.5% to 5% of the total marks.

“What the NSF is trying to send across, is for the Government to contemplate. Obviously, there are many needs as NSSB (Nagaland Staff Selection Board) is evolving as a new government agency for recruiting the government machinery officials/ministerial staff and all, so I think a collective decision will be taken very early under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and the cabinet,” Imna Along told the media persons on being asked his view on the demand of the NSF on the sideline of attending a certain programme at Kisama today.

Along, who is also minister for tourism & higher education felt that those things have to be discussed and discourse more.

Stating that he alone cannot just say “this is right or that is wrong,” he said “so, it is a matter of discussion and I think NSF is also open to it.”

It may be recalled that in view of the NSF demand for reduction in the viva-voce component weightage on Combined Staff Recruitment Examination (CSRE) 2022, the state government, has, recently decided to postpone the personal interview for three days with effect from April 18, 2023 so as to amicably settle the matter.

Following the state government’s decision to postpone the interview, the NSF has also indefinitely postponed the proposed democratic agitation.

On ULB issue

On being asked his opinion on Supreme Court’s directive on ULB issue especially on 33% reservation for women, Imna Along said that the state government, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and the cabinet has always wanted to be inclusive in the decision of the ULB also “but we also have to know the traditions and culture where the various Hohos and apex bodies are there.”

In this, Along felt that the state government needs some more time in contemplating and discussing further with the civil societies and NGOs “so that ULB can become a reality according to the context of the traditional Nagas.”
