Nagaland Governor inaugurates department exhibition stall

Kohima, January 27 (MExN): Governor of Assam and Nagaland Prof Jagdish Mukhi inaugurated the exhibition stall during 74th Republic Day celebration at the Secretariat Plaza, Kohima on January 26. 

He was accompanied by Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio and his wife Kaisa Rio. A total of ten stalls were set up by various departments of the State Government during the exhibition, stated a DIPR report. 

The Department of Information and Public Relations displayed and sold various publications and coffee table books. Calendars and Diaries for the year 2023 were sold during the exhibition. Monthly and yearly publications like the Warrior and Basic Facts 2022 were handed out during the exhibition.

The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services displayed and sold products by the Milk Cooperative of Nagaland (MILKCON), and poultry products like eggs, milk, paneer, etc. Emergency Veterinary Health Services for minor surgeries, disease outbreak investigation, sample collection, artificial insemination, and other veterinary services were offered during the exhibition. 

The Department of Agriculture displayed varieties of millets as part of the “International Year of Millets, 2023. The department also displayed various farming equipment like electric and petrol-operated rice cum maize mills, power-operated cultivators, water pumps, and power tillers. 

Land Resources Department showcased the departments’ activities like the watershed program and coffee plantation programs. The visitors to the stall also got to taste coffee grown in Nagaland.

The Department of Horticulture exhibited and sold organic oranges from Rusoma village, Kohima. The Rusoma orange field produces 4,60,000kgs in an area of 65 Ha (approx) and 400 households are involved in growing oranges. The department also sold organic garlic from Khonoma Local Garlic Farm. Khonoma produces 2,80,8000 kgs of local garlic in an area of 25 Ha (approx) and 400 households are involved in cultivating the local garlic.

The Department of Sericulture stall exhibited silk shawls, mekhala, and textiles produced from cocoons of larvae of mulberry silkworms fed in castor plants. Castor oils which have numerous health benefits were sold during the exhibition.

The Department of Industries and Commerce displayed various handicrafts made of wood and bamboo and sold citronella produced in Nagaland. The Nagaland Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd. (a government of Nagaland undertaking) under the Department of Industries and Commerce also sold pieces of jewelry and Naga shawls and garments.

The Department of Art and Culture also sold various books and publications and put on display about 50 archival documents like Elephant hunting, District Boundary, History of Hillepung (Tuensang District), Formation of Naga Country, Nagaland Mission and Church record by Dr EW Clark, etc. 

The Department of Health and Family Welfare set up a KIOSK for Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS) for registration and card issuance during the exhibition. 

The Department of Rural Development displayed and sold organic vegetables and packaged food items which were made and packaged by women folks who are under the “State Rural Livelihoods Mission.
