Dimapur, January 9 (MExN): The Hekheshe Students’ Union celebrated its Cora Jubilee (35 years) on January 7 with Kitoho S Rotokha, Secretary General of the Janata Dal (United) Bagaland Unit as special guest.

On the occasion, a jubilee monolith was unveiled and blessed by Rev Dr Phughoto Sema, Executive Secretary, WSBAK while the acting President of Western Sumi Students’ Union Kabo G Zhimomi exhorted the gathering, informed a press release from the HSU on Sunday.

According to the release, the special guest opined that the jubilee is a time for introspecting and also envisioning what we want the future to be. He lamented that while we celebrate 35 years of existence, our society today is plagued by ‘ism’ and differences, and that ‘ism’ has taken the Naga society 60 years backwards, it said.

Rotokha also lauded the wisdom of the pioneers of the union for their vision that the student community would grow and progress through the platform. He urged the students and the Union to retrospect on the past 35 years and examine if they are happy with what it has achieved so far or if they think they can do better.

Posing a challenge before the students, he maintained that there are over 90,000 ‘educated unemployed’ youths in the state as per the census, and lamented that the educated youths today have become a liability to the society instead of becoming assets. In this connection, he encouraged the upcoming generation of students to work hard and be honest with themselves.

Further, he also stated that there is a ‘serious leadership crisis’ in Nagaland, and motivated the student community to start envisioning for a brighter future. He also called upon the youths to take up entrepreneurship and look beyond government jobs and suggested doing away with ‘chief guest culture,’ the release stated.
