Porbami Youth Org golden jubilee celebration begins

A weeklong golden jubilee celebration of Porbami Youth Organisation (PYO) commenced under the theme ‘Honouring our past- creating our future’ at Porba village under Phek district on January 5. 

Gracing the inaugural function, KG Kenye, former minister and former MP (Rajya Sabha) complimented the PYO for attaining 50 glorious years.

PYO was formed in 1973 with Hüchosa Dzüdo as the first president.

Kenye saluted the pioneers for their visionary leadership and laying a strong foundation for which the youth are enjoying the fruit today.

“Youth is the best part of life,” he said adding that it is a prime time for them to face any challenges and exercise healthy competition in sports, education and other social activities.

Everything is possible during this golden period of life as they (youth) are well spirited and will power, he said.

Kenye told the youth to maintain discipline and moral integrity to excel and carry forward the social responsibility for a progressive society.

Touching on friendship treaty between Porba and Chizami village, he stressed on the need to rekindle the relationship and strive for common good.

He called upon the people of both villages to mentally prepare for golden jubilee celebration of the friendship ties, which is likely to take place by 2026.  

Further, he also lauded Porba village for producing many eminent sports personalities, social and political leaders, officers and educationists.

He also encouraged the villagers to upkeep the good social practices and continue to extend social contribution for well being of the society.
 
‘Join the race of the competitive world’

Also speaking on the occasion as the guest of honour, Kühücüyi D Vadeo, BDO Meluri called upon the youth to choose the right path during their prime days and join the race of the competitive world.

He also advised the youth to take up sports on professionalism note by choosing a particular sports discipline and excel therein.

Earlier, welcome address was delivered by Porba Village Council, Chairman, Kuve Puro while PYO president Vezato Dzüdo delivered presidential address.

Centre Chakhesang Sports Association (CCSA) President, Vemüdo D Vadeo also shared greetings.

Special number was presented by Nüvesalü Sakhamo and ‘Boka Tha Li’ by PYO.

PYO Games & Sports Secretary, Krosanyi Thülü-o administered oath to the participating teams.

Earlier, Rev Dr Vevozo Sakhamo, Vice President, NCRC pronounced act of blessings while blowing of trumpet was done by Hüvepo Chiizho. Acknowledgement was led by Shehü Rüho.

Vetho Vadeo, ex-president Chakhesang Students’ Union chaired the function while former NWA (Nagaland Wrestling Association) Naga wrestling champion Hüvesü Puro proposed vote of thanks.

Thanksgiving prayer was led by Rüdaveyi Dzüdo, catechist St. Joseph Church Porba.

Meanwhile, the golden jubilee (sports event) will continue till January 11. It will be marked by track and field events, volleyball, basketball, marathon and football.
