GPS, CwSN Lower Lerie conducts capacity building prog for SMC members

The Government Primary School, Children with Special Need (CwSN) Lower Lerie, Kohima today conducted 3rd capacity building programme under Nagaland Enhancing Classroom Teaching and Resources (NECTAR) under Lighthouse project School Education funded by World Bank.

It was attended by the School Management Committee (SMC) members, teachers and parents, which was conducted under the theme ‘Roles and functions of teachers, parents and SMC in improving holistic quality education in schools.’

Kelhikha Kenye, Deputy Mission Director Samagra Shiksha Nagaland spoke on the theme as resource person. Kenye congratulated the teachers and SMC members for playing active roles in improving the school through various initiatives.

Quoting African proverb “It take a village to raise a child,” he reminded that community should take the responsibility to provide a safe, healthy environment for children, where children are given the security they need to develop and flourish and be able to realize their hopes and dreams.

He also said that Nagaland Communitization of Public institution and Services Act 2002 was primarily aimed to instil a sense of community ownership in managing public institutions through community participation.

Speaking on New Education Policy 2020, he said teachers need to be professionally equipped to provide competency-based education to students. He also challenged the teachers to initiate innovative method of teaching to create joyful learning for children in the class.

Lanusongla Lemtur, Project Associate NECTAR – Lighthouse Project spoke on inclusive education as resource person and reminded the teachers, parents and SMC that ensuring inclusive education in the school is critical.

She said that inclusive education is not only inclusion of CwSN but meaningful inclusion of students from all socio-economically disadvantage groups (SEDGs) as mentioned in NEP 2020.

Further, she said, community participation – including parents, teachers, school leaders, local community organisations, members and leaders, student bodies, church organisations, etc. is vital to achieving the goal of equal access to education for every child in the community, which is the right of every child.

Earlier, Atoli Yeptho who spoke on behalf of the parents’ expressed appreciation to the teachers and SMC members of the school for taking several initiatives to improve the school.

She also appreciated the teachers for been accessible to students though which they are able to notice improvements in their children.

Ruokuosenuo Zao delivered welcome address while Moa Tzudir proposed vote of thanks. The programme was chaired by Supou Khiam, SMC member. 

The school has 116 students with 15 CwSNs enrolled in the school during the current academic session.
