Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Nagaland for a ‘public gathering’ at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima on October 28. The visit has been proposed in view of the PM’s possible visit to Arunachal Pradesh on October 27 or 28.

However, no agenda for the visit has been highlighted as a final confirmation from Prime Minister’s Office in New Delhi is yet to come.

Reliable sources from the state government however confirmed this evening that the State government is fully gearing up for the visit after “a marathon meeting today.” Speaking to The Morung Express over the phone, the source stated that the meeting was attended by the Chief Minister, his cabinet ministers and all the heads of state machineries.

The official added that Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio is also communicating with the PMO for final confirmation.

“We are in a positive anticipation for his visit and the CM and PMO are in touch for the same,” the official said, adding that the confirmation is expected tomorrow.

“If it is confirmed, it will be on 28 of this month and if he is coming, we have decided during the meeting to host him at IG stadium, Kohima,” the official informed.

It will be a public gathering where different political parties will be invited and will likely take place for 1 or 2 hours. However, the PMO has not highlighted any agenda for the PM’s visit, the official added.

In view of the preparation, the ongoing NSF Martyrs Trophy at IG stadium, Kohima and which is to conclude on October 29 had been rescheduled to pave way for security and other protocol arrangements ahead of the visit.
