‘Please come and invest in Nagaland’ Startup Nagaland draws investor’s attention

The pitch presentation by 18 startups from Nagaland including presentation on projects identified for investment in Nagaland by various agencies/departments have attracted the attention of investors during a ‘Session on investment opportunities in Nagaland’ at Nagaland CSR & Investment Conclave 2022 in Kohima on August 23.

Dr Geetima Das Krishna, Head North East Desk, Invest India told the session at the Conference hall of Department of IT & C, that Invest India is ready to assist any investor who want to invest in Nagaland.

“Please come and invest in Nagaland,” she said. “We have our share of problems and we have our share of hurdles but we don’t have lack or shortage of enthusiasm and desire to grow and desire to change,” said Kekhrievor Kevichusa, Commissioner & Secretary For Industries & Commerce, Nagaland.

He maintained that this CSR & Investment Conclave would help build better partnership with the investors and provide opportunities to introduce the local entrepreneurs to connect with experts and major business houses in India.

Brig. Ashis Bhattacharyya, Senior Advisor (NE and UTs), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) complimented startups Nagaland and look forward  to future connect with the investors and take the project forward as far  as possible.

Stating that some process has to be followed, he said “We are coming to you very soon.”

Earlier, V Kezo, Commissioner & secretary finance, Nagaland gave concluding remarks for the session.

The session also witnessed sharing from Dr Rena Van Berkel, UNIDO Representative for India, Arnab Chakraborty, National Director, Empretec India Foundation and Lanu Jamir, Zip Engineering & Innovation Centre Dimapur. Startup Nagaland Team leader Kenei Theunuo highlighted “Startup ecosystem in Nagaland.” The session also marked by video presentation on “Emerging investment destination.”
 
‘Nagaland has now woken up to potential of Startup’
KD Vizo, Principal Secretary IT & C, Nagaland said “I am extremely pleased to see the enthusiasm and passion of our Startups in showcasing their ideas and I encourage you to continue building your ambitions and ideas.”

He said, in 2016, the Government of India launched the ‘Startup India’ programme with the objective to build a strong ecosystem for nurturing innovation and Startups in the country that would drive sustainable economic growth and generate large scale employment opportunities.

In this respect, he said, taking cognizant of the massive potential of the entrepreneurial strength of the youth, the state government also initiated Start up Program and Policy with Industries and Commerce as nodal department to create an enabling environment for start-ups to grow, by ensuring knowledge exchange, capacity building, policy interventions and access to funding.

“We have a huge market with rapid growth and untapped opportunities in every sector. Nagaland has now woken up to the potential of Startup with great enthusiasm and energy and we see Startups, not as short-term investments, but as long-term commitments, he said.

From adventure tourism, OrganicAgro Foods, Music and Entertainment, Graphics Design, IT and ITeSetc there are a whole lot of Startups that may see increased business in the coming year, he said.

He sought the support of the industries and investors to come forward and support entrepreneurs and startup in whatever way possible.

 Road map for development of industries in Nagaland
Highlighting “Road map for development of industries in Nagaland,” Vitsutho Nyuthe, Director, Industries & Commerce Nagaland said, “Nagaland presents a unique set of challenges and opportunities in terms of growth of trade, commerce and Industry owing to historical-geopolitical conflicts, and remoteness from mainland India. However, over the past years, improvements have been made across all developmental sectors and correspondingly economic activity has taken an upbeat in the state.”

He told the investors that the state government is fully committed to foster industrial development in the state.

In order to carry forward the roadmap for development of Industries in Nagaland, he said a broad-based objectives and initiatives need to be taken up and promote and nurture the culture of entrepreneurship, innovation, to give Support to Startups, generate employment by facilitating the development and growth of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, promote cluster development and foster production, marketing and sourcing of raw materials and strengthen local production capacity and increase domestically manufactured goods through technology inducements and upgradations.

He said that revision of the State Industrial Policy is under due process, adding that the State Food Processing Policy has been formulated and is under submission with the Government for approval.

Further, Nyuthe said that the industries and commerce department is focusing towards promoting and developing the growth of industrial sector in a broader perspective for overall economic growth of the state.

Ltd (Food Processing), Online Express Nagaland (Logistics), Sanang Eduservice LLP (Education), Modern Myriad Branding Pvt. Ltd (IT Services), Grandpa’s Pickle Co. (Food Processing), Z’s Health Food (Food Processing), Saucy Joes  (Food Processing), Ahibo LLP (Logistics), NE Health Services (Health), Dimapur Disposables (Manufacturing) and One Naga Construction Pvt. Ltd (Construction and real estate).
Those who made presentation on projects identified for investments in Nagaland included; Veyielo Doulo of tourism department (Tourist lodge Kohima upgradation), Tovi Chopi of Angukhi Industries Pvt. Ltd (Engineering composite materials from waste banana pseudo stem), Visesato Mor of Formation Society (Plant  micro- propagation and development of synthetic seeds), Darlando Khating of Northeast Christian University (NECU) (Medicinal & Aromatic Plants farming) and Kekhriezavi Lea of Geology & Mining department (Mini Cement Plant).
