Deputy Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Yangseo Sangtam on Saturday maintained that not everyone is a writer or an author but “everyone can be a reader.”
Addressing the launch of “The little book of Jesse” written by Jesse Thonger at Hotel Japfü, Kohima, he congratulated the author for coming up with such an innovative work at such a young age and igniting the dying art of writing.
When we look back, he said, writing has been practiced with the knowledge and wisdom that God has given but with the coming of modern technology, it has become a dying art. “I want to encourage more young people to write,” he expressed while impressing upon that Jesse’s book will inspire his peer groups to start writing.
He also remarked that “we are in a very perplexed situation now and living in a very different condition” while putting across that “forget about writing, even reading newspapers and magazines has become a challenge.” However, he stated confidence that although it’s a small book, it will inspire others.
Acknowledging that releasing a book is a first time experience for him, he said, he was inspired and commended Jesse for igniting the dying art of writing. He expressed confidence that everybody who reads the book will be inspired and that it will be a blessing to others.
The Deputy Speaker formally released the book in the presence of S Keoshu Yimkhiung, Advisor for Information & Public Relations and Village Guard.
Jesse Thonger talked about the contents of the book by highlighting the chapters in the book. Mention may be made here that Jesse Thonger is currently pursuing B.A in English from Sazolie College. In 2019, he received a national recognition from Katha Utsav in writing. He enjoys writing philosophical stuff, listening to audiobooks, and also maintains a diary.
In her publisher’s note, Vishü Rita Krocha stated belief that the author has written this adorable book to ignite that inner spark that each one already has in them while exuding hope that it will help a fellow human being to live with zest and vigour.
Stating that we all want to be happy in life, she noted that that is exactly what Jesse advocates in the book. She went on to state that “happiness matters so much and being happy is extremely crucial because it is that one thing that drives our ambitions and motivates us to wake up every morning to pursue our dreams and goals.”
She further quoted Jesse from the book—“Making your parents proud and happy with your life may seem tough. But making yourself proud and happy isn’t at all tough. The least you could do is make yourself proud and happy with your own life.”
In relation to this, she also stated confidence that Jesse has made his parents very proud and happy while congratulating him on the book. “The little book of Jesse” is the 59th publication of PenThrill and the 32-paged little book is priced at Rs100.
Highlights of the programme included prayer of blessings by Rev Thsidong, SBC Kohima while Er. Sao Sangtam chaired the programme.
