Dimapur | June 5
Toeing the line of the party high command, the Nagaland BJP has also embarked on a campaign showering praises of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre. PHED Minister, Jacob Zhimomi, addressing a press conference, in Dimapur on June 4, said that the north-east has made significant progress over the past 8 years with Modi providing special attention to the region for all round development.
Commemorating 8 years of governance under Modi, the BJP has recently announced a slew of programmes across the country under the banner of Seva, Sushasan and Garib Kalyan.
Zhimomi, who said that the press conference was organised to share and highlight the achievements of the Modi government, said, “The aspiration of the north-east has become the aspiration of the Prime Minister. He said that India will not grow, if the north-east does not.” While stating that the region, including Nagaland, has been making pace with the rest of the country, of late, he added that the changes are visible not only in the form of improved road, air and rail connectivity but also in terms of flagship development schemes.
According to him, the 12 BJP MLAs, an ally of the Neiphiu Rio-led government, are happy at how the Modi government has performed over the past 8 years.
He further listed out some of the flagship welfare programmes rolled out by the Central government, like the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY), Ayushman Bharat, Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Swachh Bharat Mission, Jal Jeevan Mission, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana, Atmanirbhar Bharat, Pradhanmantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana and so forth, besides other programmes targeting the empowerment of women/girls.
PMGKAY, a food security welfare scheme, launched during the COVID-19 pandemic, has benefited the “lowest strata of the society,” besides ensuring the sustainability of livelihoods. The Ayushman Bharat, a health insurance scheme in essence, he said, has to be percolated down to the last village. Under the PMBJP, he informed that over 8000 medical stores have been opened providing generic medicines at affordable prices. He further read out data on the PM Awaz Yojna, a scheme targeting to provide affordable housing to the urban poor. “Every indian should have roof on the top. As of today, this programme has ensured the construction of over 3 crore houses,” he said.
“We all know that the Swacch Bharat Mission was initiated during Modi’s first term. He ensured that every household should have toilet. Today, the country, including Nagaland, is ODF state,” Zhimomi said. On the Jal Jeevan Mission, he said that the scheme is not only about providing water but also about water that is safe.
