The lone bus service ferrying citizens from Dimapur to Tening under Peren district is in dire need of repairs or replacement.

According to concerned citizens, the bus service which is provided by the Nagaland State Transport (NST) “is quite upsetting and off-putting due to execrable bus conditions.”

K Nren, a citizen of the Tening sub-division, Peren district, informed The Morung Express that during the rainy season, “passengers have to use an umbrella or a scarf even inside the bus to protect themselves from water dripping through the leaky roof.”

Besides experiencing deplorable road conditions in the form of potholes and puddles, the denizens of the area have to bear countless hardships and difficulties and poor transportation service is one of the many, and basic necessity that needs to be addressed by the government, he said.

The denizens of the area deserve a better quality of bus service as it is the only lifeline for the economically weaker people of the area who cannot afford to travel by private taxi and do not own private vehicles, he added.

Nren’s concerns were corroborated with images purportedly taken by commuters who took the bus journey in the last week of May.

Meanwhile, the Assistant General Manager (AGM) of NST in Peren District, while acknowledging the poor condition of the bus, informed that the Dimapur-Tening bus service falls under Dimapur Station.

Attempts to contact the AGM for Dimapur NST office remained unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
