Zhavame, April 19 (MExN): With the main objective to make Zhavame a cleaner and greener village, the Zhavame Students’ Union (ZSU) today organised the 3rd phase of dustbin installation in the village by installing a total of 80 dustbins. Danyi Domeh, APO, Planning and Coordination Department formally installed the dustbins painted in green and made out of tin containers and wooden frames.
During the installation, the speaker highlighted about the harmful effects of non-biodegradable substances and called upon the villagers to properly dispose plastic waste and further exuded hope to see Zhavame becoming one of the cleanest villages in Phek district. He also highlighted about the Smart City development taking place in India and challenged the villagers to make Zhavame village a Smart village through the initiative of Cleaner Zhavame and by providing a tourist-friendly environment.
Meanwhile, Head GB, Sanyi Shupao observed how the village has become cleaner with the initiative of the students’ union and urged the villagers to utilise the bins properly. VDB Secretary, Tho-o Shupao and Head Teacher, Charles Krocha also commended the students’ body for the initiative.
It may be noted here that the Zhavame Students’ Union initiated dustbin installation in the village in the year 2018 and the activity is being carried out in line with the declaration of Zhavame village as a plastic-free zone in 2017.
ZSU has also been carrying out sanitation drive and sensitization programmes every season in the village in its endeavour to keep the village clean. The dustbins will be installed in and around the village and at Kapamodzü peak.
Highlights of the programme included invocation by Muvi Domeh, Advisor ZSU while Visapa Movi, Advisor, ZSU chaired the programme.
