Nagaland joins Fire Service Week

The Directorate of Fire & Emergency Services, Kohima, Nagaland today joined “Fire Service Week” with other fire services across the country with the theme “Learn Fire Safety, Increase Productivity.”
In the state capital Kohima, an awareness on fire prevention and safety campaign was carried out today in the various locations.
The Fire Service Week will continue till April 20.
During Fire Service Week, April 14 is observed as Martyrs Day every year to pay homage to those brave fire personnel who lost their precious live while performing their duty.
This day is set aside for mass awareness campaign on fire hazard & safety measures by conducting public education programmes.
2 fire service personnel from Nagaland gets award
On the occasion of Fire Service Week 2022, two fire service personnel from Nagaland Fire & Emergency Services have been conferred with the prestigious award of DG- FS, CD & HG’s Bronze Disc & Commendation Certificate from Directorate General Fire Service, Civil Defense & Home Guards, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
The recipient of the award included Zhasalie Napranotsu and Kenny Khing, both Inspector of Fire & Emergency Services Nagaland.
Fire prevention and safety measures
• Call and inform Fire Services immediately as and when Fire breaks out. Don’t panic.
• Don’t misuse Fire Service Telephone numbers. It is a punishable offence.
• Give right and precise information.
• Use appropriate Fire Extinguishers at the initial stage to contain Fire.
• Don’t pour Water on Oil and Electrical Fire. Use appropriate Fire Extinguishers.
• Inform Power Department to cut off power line in the locality to avoid further disasters.
• Give way to Fire Tenders to pass unobstructed.
• Fire Sirens are not to be used by any other individuals or Organizations. VIPs and other Utility Services may kindly use their respective Sirens.
• Locate the Fire incident spot, guide and show Fire Personnel the shortest possible route.
• Locate source and supply water at the vicinity of the fire incident.
• Don’t disturb or drag the delivery Hose while Fire Personnel are combating Fire.
• Install Fire Extinguishers, Fire Alarms, Smoke Detectors, Fire Hydrants and Sprinkler systems at homes.
• Every household should maintain a small water tank to meet any fire hazards before fire personnel arrive. Kitchen Fire/Gas Candles Lamps etc should be properly extinguished when not in use

• Use certified and Standard Electrical appliances viz Wire, Plugs, Switches, Sockets, etc
• Prepare Family Fire Evacuation plans and have regular Mock Drills.
