A private city bus reportedly carrying college students while returning from St Joseph’s College, Jakhama met with an accident at Phesama, Kohima in the afternoon on April 11.
The bus, on routine college duty had around 25 students onboard and was reportedly returning back from college when it rammed into the wrong side of the drainage.
Few students sustained minor injuries while one student was undergoing medical examination.
While the exact cause of the accident could not be confirmed during the time of filing the report, the Southern Angami Students Union (SASU) and it’s concerned units on receipt of report arrived on the spot.
Onlookers and students informed that the bus driver was intoxicated and was overspeeding, causing the vehicle to haul on the side.
SASU President Zhovito Rikha shared concern over the welfare of the students and public in general over such untoward incidents which can be averted. The students were appearing their final semester exams.
He said the SASU has served prior notice to all educational institutions under its jurisdiction to maintain discipline and decorum to ensure safety and security of the students. The driver and the bus were later taken into police custody.
