The rally led by YTC president S Throngso and his colleagues was attended by Yimkhiung Akherü Arihako (YAA), Yimkhiung Women Organisation, Shamator Town Public Forum and others.

They said state government had “unconditionally” assured the people of Yimkhiung tribe that Shamator would be upgraded to district. It may be mentioned that the cabinet on December 18, 2021, approved creation of three new districts– Tseminyu, Chümoukedima and Niuland. It was reported that the cabinet, in principle, had also approved granting district status to Shamator. However, it was learnt that creation of a separate district (Shamator) would be made possible only if different tribes inhabiting the sub-division agreed on the matter.
