DIMAPUR, DEC 17 (NPN): Naga Hoho (NH) has demanded that Union home minister Amit Shah must immediately tender public apology for the misleading statement in Parliament. In a press note, NH also insisted that government of India must immediately revoke the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from the Northeast and Naga areas in particular, besides removing “Disturb Area” tag from Nagaland that was causing more harm than good to citizen.

NH said it took strong exception to the “distorted statement” of Shah in Parliament. While the incident was evidently intentional, the hoho alleged that the home minister tried to cover up the incident by terming it as a case of “mistaken identity” and the forces acted in “self-defence”, which it said was not at all acceptable.

“We strongly believe that the ambush has been masterminded by the political masters of 21 para commandos,” NH said. It further emphasised that the Indo-Naga peace process must conclude at the earliest, in view of the commitment made to the people to avoid misuse of AFSPA by Indian armed forces in future.

NH said that government of India empowering security forces to operate under the cover of AFSPA was nothing but to suppress the rights of people to move freely and express, which contradicted the Constitution of India. It asserted that AFSPA was a direct violation of human rights and a negation of democracy even though India claims with pride to be the largest democratic nation in the world. “India’s acclaimed peace keeper at the international level is a farce as it deputed its forces to suppress and dehumanise the people,” it added.

NH pointed out that Nagas hoped for a political solution after the signing of Framework Agreement. However, instead of resolving the Naga issue, it accused government of India of trying to create law and order situation by torturing and killing innocent people, unable to live by its commitments for justice.
