Staff Reporter DIMAPUR SEP 14 (NPN) : As reported in this newspaper, Dimapur police in a breakthrough rescued the a three-year-old boy and arrested all five persons including the main accused involved in the abduction of the minor boy for ransom.
Talking to media persons, deputy commissioner of police (DCP), Zone 1, Dr Naieem Mustafa said the victim Yash Joshi was kidnapped by unknown miscreants on the night of September 10.
Based on a complaint by the victim’s father, about the abduction of his son from their residence at Jorapukhuri in Purana Bazaar area here, he said a police team led by himself and assistant commissioner of police (ACP) ‘A’, Zone 1, Seyiesezo Peseyie, immediately began investigating the case and obtained information from CCTV footages of the building and surrounding shops.
He said sources were engaged in the locality and strategic locations to collect all relevant facts and leads.
The DCP mentioned that the police received lead when they managed to track down the SIM card used by the kidnappers to make calls to the victim’s family. He said the SIM card used was bought from black market recently.
He, however, refused to share the details of how the police managed to arrest the five persons involved in the case.
DCP Zone 1 and PRO Bharat Laxman Markad, who too was present at the press briefing, said the minor was rescued from a small thatch house at Mon Singh Teron village, about four to five km from the national highway in Khatkhati area, around 2 a.m. on Sunday.
He claimed that the kidnappers had initially demanded Rs 15 lakh as ransom from the family and later, after negotiations, agreed to lower their demand to Rs 10 lakh, which was supposed to be paid at a certain location on September 11.
The PRO said Jiboraj Mech, the mastermind behind the abduction, resided at the same building where the minor stayed and was quite close with the family. He stated that after establishing that the motive behind the crime was money, the police launched a major operation and nabbed Jiboraj Mech (26), Dilwar Hussain (21), Rahul Narzary (24), Vikram Singh (21) and Md Yashin Ali (32).
Markad claimed that Jiboraj was in touch with the minor’s family even after the abduction to show his concern and had even allegedly tried to dissuade the family from approaching the police, citing the child’s safety.
Meanwhile, the minor’s mother expressed shock that someone close to the family was behind the incident.
Dr Sunder Pareek, uncle of the victim and who was in constant touch with the kidnappers, alleged that the kidnappers had threatened the family members that they would not hand over the child till the ransom was paid.
The family members expressed gratitude to the police for their prompt action and rescuing the minor.
NCD condemns kidnapping, lauds police: Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) has strongly condemned the kidnapping of the three-year-old boy and lauded the police for successfully resolving the case.
In a press release, council’s president Etsungmomo Kikonalso urged the law enforcing agencies to ensure punishment to the kidnappers as per the law of the land.
He alleged that residents of Dimapur have been subjected to criminal acts like abduction, rape, looting, extortion, intimidation, rampant taxation and other anti-social activities committed by some underground factions and illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.
