Correspondent KOHIMA, SEP 11 (NPN) : To create an enabling ecosystem for Nagaland women entrepreneurs to thrive, a tripartite memorandum of understanding was signed among Investment Development Authority Nagaland (IDAN), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and Dhriiti at New Delhi office of IDAN on Friday through a webinar.
GIZ and Dhriiti are already collaborating through Project “Her & Now” to provide support to women entrepreneurs from the North-easternregion through a structured incubation and acceleration programme. With learning from project implementation, the two organisations have come together to partner with IDAN to expand the scope of women entrepreneurship promotion and establish a larger network constituting different stakeholders, agents and actors that can leverage the potential of Nagaland’s women entrepreneurs.
In her brief address, head of Project Her & Now GIZ Julia Karst said the one critical need that was felt during implementation was to come together to address the unique needs of women entrepreneurs and facilitate their access to a network that helped them grow.
“We are confident that our partnership with IDAN and Dhriiti will bring us one step closer to achieving this in Nagaland”, said Karst. Dhriiti adviser and co-founder Anirban Gupta remarked that the initiative would build an active ecosystem for promoting and supporting women entrepreneurship in Nagaland.
IDAN CEO Alemtmshi Jamir expressed the hope to carry forward the programme even after the project comes to an end.
GIZ GmbH is implementing the project “Economic Empowerment of Women Entrepreneurs and Start-ups by Women” on behalf of German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in partnership with the Union ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship (MSDE).
Project Her&Now aims to contribute to a more enabling environment for women-led enterprises in India.
Meanwhile, interacting with media persons after the programme, Jamir said about 60-70 women from Nagaland were identified as working entrepreneurs who would be backed up in various sectors like approaching offices and banks.
He pointed out that even though women in Nagaland were often considered empowered, certain discriminations were still prevalent and asserted that IDAN would provide them a back-up to ensure that they become full-fledged entrepreneurs.
Jamir said even though GIZ and Dhriiti would implement the project for about a year, IDAN would try to carry it forward even after July 31, 2022, when the project is officially scheduled to end.
To a query, he replied that presently there were no financial implications for IDAN.
He mentioned that the project was in the domain of industries department, adding that IDAN was working hand-in-hand with the former.
Asserting that the programme would give impetus to women entrepreneurs, he said the programme would be handed over to the industries department.
