India sees rise in Covid-19 cases with 43,263 fresh infections

New Delhi, September 9 (agencies) India registered 43,263 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the country’s caseload to 3,31,39,981. As many as 338 deaths due to the infection were also reported in the last 24 hours, according to the data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday.

India recorded a rise in Covid cases for the second consecutive day this week. On Thursday, the country recorded 14.2 per cent higher cases as compared to Wednesday. While on Wednesday, the Covid-19 cases were 21.3 per cent higher than the day before.

On Monday and Tuesday, the number of Covid-19 cases was comparatively lower. India logged 31,222 new cases on Tuesday, 19.8 per cent lower than that reported on Monday. Meanwhile, the country had registered 38,948 new cases on Monday, 8.9 per cent lower than that reported on Sunday.

Kerala continues to be among the top five states which have registered the maximum number. Kerala reported 30,196 cases in the last 24 hours, followed by Maharashtra with 4,174 cases, Tamil Nadu with 1,587 cases, Andhra Pradesh with 1,361 cases and Karnataka with 1,102 cases.

As many as 88.82 per cent of the new cases are reported from these five states, with Kerala alone responsible for 69.8 per cent of the new cases.

Meanwhile, 338 more people succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours, pushing the country’s toll to 4,41,749.

Besides, a total of 40,567 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, bringing the total recoveries to 3,23,04,618 across the country. With this, India’s recovery rate now stands at 97.48 per cent.

Moreover, the active Covid-19 caseload in the country increased by 2,358, pushing the tally to 3,93,614.

India has administered a total of 86,51,701 doses in the last 24 hours, which brings the total tally of doses administered to 71,65,97,428.
