Correspondent KOHIMA, SEP 7 (NPN) : The directorate of Economics and Statistics launched a five-day training on social statistics including vital statistics for statistical staff at DES conference hall, here, on Tuesday.
Inaugurating the training programme, Economics and Statistics (E&S) department, additional director and HoD, Neidilhou Angami said the training programme on social statistics was one important subject of the department as it covered most activities of the department including statistics on population, gender, health, disaster, employment, income and investment etc.
In this regard, Neidilhou urged the trainees to take the sessions seriously and grab the opportunity to update their knowledge and skill.
To enhance human resource capability of the department, Neidilhou said the department had a training division to train statistics officers on various statistical topics and innovative programmes were being initiated to improve credibility of the department in providing reliable and accurate statistics for proper policy intervention.
Asserting that E&S department was nodal department of statistics in the state, he stressed on the need to work cohesively to deliver goods and execute the responsibilities in an effective manner.
The HoD urged statistical staff to take advantage of the training to equip themselves with collection and identification of different data as it would be more elaborate including theoretical and practical sessions and discussion hours.
Maintaining that economics and statistics was a performing department, Neidilhou said the department recently set up a committee on staffing patterns with the concept of placing the right person at the right place of posting for effective functioning.
Deputy director & programme officer (training), Kezhalelhou Solo informed that altogether 40 statistical staff from Kohima, Dimapur, Wokha, Mokokchung, Kiphire and the directorate were undergoing the training which would be conducted till September 10.
