Staff Reporter DIMAPUR, SEP 4 (NPN) : Rising People’s Party (RPP), on Friday, launched “Lifeline of Nagaland”, a crowd funding initiative, to generate Rs 10 crore, to be handed over to the authority concerned for completing the much-awaited Foothill road.
Addressing a gathering at Hotel Acacia, RPP youth wing president Zhokhoi Chuzho recalled how the Foothill project was revived in 2013 by a co-ordination committee called Nagaland Foothill Road Co-ordination Committee (NFHRCC) comprising 11 representatives from as many tribal bodies (hohos). He said the NFHRCC then appealed to the State government to complete the road.
After realising that the road was crucial for the State, he said individuals, organisations and church bodies contributed towards its construction with cash and kind. However, he said the project came to a grinding halt yet again after August 2016, owing to insufficient funding and misplaced priorities of the government.
Chuzho claimed that 90% of earth cutting work was completed and 10% of the remaining earth cutting and completion of major bridge over Doyang river were required. After this, he said the road would at least become motorable and provide much needed relief to the people.
He said without this “Lifeline”, people of Nagaland will be left with no choice but to traverse through the neighbouring state of Assam in order to reach their villages.
Chuzho said travellers from Nagaland were forced to endure unimaginable hardships by way of illegal taxations, police harassment and racism.
He termed the crowd funding project as ‘a herculean task’, but maintained that every penny mattered as “no contribution is small contribution”.
He also challenged that nobody had ever become poorer by giving and so appealed to all people to donate for the noble cause. Chuzho also assured that all contributions received would be utilised purely for completion of the Foothill road- from Khelma in Peren to Tizit in Mon.
RPP media team member Mughato Swu briefed the those gathered on how the donation would be raised using the online crowd funding site Milaap –https://milaap.org/fundraisers/support-foothill-road.
He said that Milaap was India’s most trusted crowd funding platform which enabled anyone across India to raise funds for healthcare, education, sports, disaster relief and other personal causes, with great ease.
Mughato also assured that the collection drive would be 100% transparent, and anyone could check the list of donors from the website itself.
RPP secretary (admin) Lhikhro Kreo chaired the programme where Miss Phek 2019 and Miss Diva 2021 second runner-up Munulu Chizo donated Rs 30,000 from the party’s end.
Till the time of filing this report, a total of Rs.67,389 was collected as donation.
