DIMAPUR, SEP 4 (NPN): Naga People’s Front (NPF) president Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu said that his party has provided Nagas across political boundaries a platform for emotional integration, though they were yet to be politically integrated.
Speaking at the inauguration of NPF Manipur State unit head office at Senapati town, he said the new office would remain a source of strength for not only the party, but Naga people, adding that the new office would serve as a symbol of oneness.
Speaking on the proposed opposition-less government in Nagaland, the NPF president remarked that coming together of MLAs of 13thNagaland Legislative Assembly(NLA) was nothing, but a sign of unity to press for an early resolution to the Naga political issue.
He maintained that Naga people should have one voice for a peaceful and honourable solution to the Naga problem and pointed out that though the political parties were only facilitators to the Naga peace process yet, coming together of the MLAs was a new exercise and an experiment to have one voice for the larger interest of Naga people.
Speaking on the occasion, NPF Manipur State unit (MSU) president Awangbow Newmai, who is also a minister in Manipur government, called for an early solution to the Naga political solution.
“Nagas have nothing to fear as we are seeking only our rights,” he clarified, adding that if Government of India rejected the Naga political issue, then it would be like rejecting the Naga people. Referring to the Manipur Assembly electiondue early next year, he asserted that NPF was prepared both for the Assembly and autonomous district council elections and hoped that the party would perform much better.
He assured to carry forward the motto of NPF for the betterment of Naga people.
In his address, NLA legislator Vikheho Swu, who is MLA in-charge of Manipur, pointed out that NPF was launched in Manipur with a vision to bring the Nagas living in the hill areas under one umbrella for socio-economic development and highlight their identity.
He said the vision to have a developed and progressive Nagas hill areas in Manipur was not a far-fetched dream and called upon the people to work hard with a common vision for “purposeful and united Manipur for peace and development”.
NPF secretary general Achumbemo Kikon, who also spoke on the occasion, maintained that the party was not just another political party, but a party with a difference and represented the aspirations of Naga people.
He claimed that NPF represented Naga people and their identity, and stood for peaceful co-existence with every section of the society.
Earlier, NPF MSU working president Robert T Maram delivered the welcome address and also moderated the programme. This was stated in a party’s press communiqué.
