Ikiye-Itovi Youth Front demands immediate action

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 21 (MExN): The Ikiye-Itovi Youth Front has demanded that the State Government look into the poor condition of the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Satoi in Satakha sub division of Zunheboto district.

A press release from the front’s President, Kavi Awomi and General Secretary, Abel Achumi said that the pathetic condition of the health centre was on display when on February 20, the victims of a vehicle accident were unable to avail basic health care facilities at the centre.

It informed that on February 20, a Tata Sumo met with an accident at around 2:00pm between Itovi and Ikiye villages in the Satoi. Three persons were seriously injured and rushed to the nearby Satoi PHC. “However, it was shocking to learn that none of the Healthcare workers including the doctor or nurses were present,” the youth front informed. It added that only one lady, “a proxy incharge” was stationed at PHC. “Not even wokadine medicine was made available to stop constant bleeding and a single dose of tentanus toxoid injection was made available to avail first aid when the patients reached the PHC Satoi,” it stated. The patients were later moved to Zunheboto as no facilities were available at Satoi.

The Ikiye-Itovi Youth Front appealed to the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare and the Chief Medical Officer, Zunheboto to initiate stern action against all the erring healthcare workers. It also demanded that necessary arrangements be made for provision of medical staff and medical requirement at the PHC. It further urged that the concerned authorities conduct physical inspection of the PHC Satoi within 24 hours from the receipt of this letter.

Meanwhile, it asked the EAC, Satoi block to “look after public affairs in the public interest.”

“In the event of failing to meet the demands, the Ikiye-Itovi Youth Front will leave no stone unturned and will take legal actions against the concerned department,” it said.
