Reopening of schools in Nagaland for Classes 6 and above today

Educational institutions in Nagaland will be re-opened on February 8 for the students of Classes 6 and above.

The Directorate of School Education (DoSE), Nagaland has permitted the resumption of conduct of regular classes for students of classes 6 and above in all the schools functioning in Nagaland from February 8.

For the safety of the students, teachers and all concerned, Nagaland’s Chief Secretary J Alam had issued Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) on February 1 last stipulating the preventive measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 in educational institutions, for strict compliance throughout the state of Nagaland.

‘Don’t become asymptomatic COVID carriers’
In view of the resumption of the regular classes, Principal Director for School Education Shanavas C requested the heads of school, teachers, parents and students to take various precautionary measures, “in the interest of safety and wellbeing of all of us.”

He told The Morung Express that schools heads should schedule school activities strictly following the February 1 SOPs issued by the Government and ensure that all materials required for COVID-19 sanitation purpose are made available in the schools.

Teachers would also have to familiarize themselves well with the notified precautionary measures and sensitize students to adapt them at each step in daily life, he said.

Students should strictly adhere to the guidelines and advice being given by the school authorities and officials of the health department and take precautions at each step so as protect themselves and their family members at home, he added.

Shanavas requested students to keep in mind that even though young people may be more resistant to the virus, elderly family members at home may not have the same level of immunity. “Therefore, students are requested to see that they do not become asymptomatic COVID carriers and spread the virus to others in home and society,” he added.

He also urged one and all to strictly follow the three Ws- “Wear a mask, Wash your hands and Watch your distance for the safety and wellbeing of all of us.”

Shanavas meanwhile wished all, “a happy new academic session.”
