Renowned anti-corruption activist, academic, and advocate Kezhosavi Savi was laid to rest at his native village of Jakhama today, following a funeral service held at Ze-Naki ground, Jakhama village, in the afternoon.
Savi, who passed away at the age of 56 yesterday at a private hospital in Kohima, was a towering figure in the fight against corruption and an influential social activist. With a career spanning over 25 years, Savi made significant contributions both as a legal professional and a public servant. At the time of his passing, he was serving as an Assistant Professor at Kohima Law College and was the president of the Nagaland Voluntary Consumer Organization (NVCO).

A key player in the formation of Against Corruption and Unabated Taxation (ACAUT), Savi was vocal about corruption and persistent issues related to consumer and human rights in Nagaland. His advocacy spanned a wide range of societal concerns, making him a well-known and respected figure across the state.
The funeral service was attended by numerous dignitaries, including members of the High Court Bar Association, Kohima; Rotary Club; Kohima Law College; and Angami Students Union, among others. Eulogies were delivered by Savi’s wife, Neisedeno, his eldest daughter, Zashebonu, his brother, and several other close family members.
Savi was not only recognized for his legal expertise but also for his active role in various social initiatives. He served as a legal advisor and consultant to various organizations, including government bodies, and was deeply involved in student movements during his youth.
In his tribute, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio described Savi as a dedicated, honest, and hardworking individual who was committed to public service. “As the president of the Nagaland Voluntary Consumer Organization, he raised several issues for public awareness and welfare. He was always passionate about any work related to the society’s well-being. Besides his professional life, he was known to be helpful and considerate to anyone in need,” Rio said. He added that Savi’s passing represents a significant loss for the Naga society, particularly the Angami community.

Rajya Sabha MP S Phangnon Konyak also paid her respects, describing Savi as a “well-known figure among the legal community, a crusader against corruption, and a concerned citizen who aspired for the best for Nagaland.”
The ACAUT, in a statement, fondly remembered Savi’s pivotal role in the organization’s efforts to combat corruption in Nagaland. They noted his leadership in key issues such as the establishment of the Lokayukta in the state, the fight against illegal taxation, and efforts to curb backdoor appointments. “He was extremely vocal and led from the front in highlighting dozens of illegal practices that were hampering the state,” the ACAUT stated.
The Nagaland Government Registered Class-1 Contractors’ Union also expressed deep shock at his passing. The Union remembered Savi for his long-standing service as their legal advisor for nearly two decades. His invaluable advice and initiatives were credited with helping the Union accomplish many significant tasks.
Kezhosavi Savi’s legacy as a tireless advocate for justice, transparency, and societal welfare will continue to inspire future generations in Nagaland and beyond.
