NPF reiterates demand for PDA to step down

DIMAPUR, AUG 3 (NPN): Accusing the PDA government of being in a confused state of mind and not working for welfare of the people, NPF reiterated its demand for the ruling coalition to step down on moral ground.

Reacting to an NDPP rejoinder, the opposition party in a communiqué reminded the ruling coalition that being at the helm of affairs, it was their bounden duty to address public issues as Naga people were no more fools to succumb to their “cheap politicking”.

Welcoming setting up of Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB), NPF asked NDPP not to go overboard to score political brownie points as the process in this regard was started by DAN-III government under the leadership of then chief minister TR Zeliang in the later part of 2017. While clarifying that it was grateful to the PDA government for taking up what was started then, the opposition party said it did not behove the ruling party to claim beyond what was not its due.

Further, reacting to NDPP’s reference to chaos and instability during the previous regime, NPF asked the former to do self-introspection and tell the truth as to who engineered all the chaos that took place. According to the opposition party, it was an open secret as to who started the tussle and brought about constant disturbances in the State for personal gain and safety.

“Unless you are suffering from selective amnesia, it should be fresh in the hearts and minds of all NPF workers who have now joined NDPP about the misadventures of their leader in Delhi and his subsequent desperate attempts to get involved in State politics,” the communiqué added. Alleging that constant attempts were made to bring about discord and disunity and tear down the democratically-elected NPF-led DAN-III, the communiqué recalled how he tried to sneak back into the party fold after having failed to win over the elected members despite indulging in resort politics.

However, as the party president saw the trickery and refused to assure him a ticket, it hit him like a thunderbolt and made him jump across to NDPP where he always had one foot.

Hence, NPF emphasised that the incumbent chief minister and NDPP had no moral right to accuse others of what had happened which was his own doing.

Further, the opposition party stated that the previous regime under the leadership of Zeliang did not have an opposition and thus less time was taken in Nagaland Legislative Assembly, adding there was consensus and unity among the legislators both within and outside the floor of the House.

Claiming that this unity and leadership helped in bringing mega road projects to the State, NPF asserted that even on the Indo-Naga political Issue, the DAN-III was able to bring about the historic Framework Agreement and continued to make huge strides by bringing all groups to the negotiating table. But the party observed that the current dispensation could not be expected to bring about any new development as there it lacked in sincerity.

The communiqué stated that the contradictions within NDPP was evident when it says that NPF president should not stoop so low as to attack the ruling party’s media team and yet claims on the other hand that its statements were not the views of just a few individuals but that of its entire rank and file.

NPF clarified that as a responsible political party it completely believed in the ethos of democracy and would continue to play a constructive role as opposition, unlike some in the NDPP “who believe in mobocracy and runs after chaos and havoc to attain personal success and gains”.
