Christy Paul Mathew, Arti Kumari and Sneha Das made it to the top three respectively at the NBSE’s High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination 2023, the results of which were declared on May 24.
In an interview with The Morung Express, Mathew, still overwhelmed by the news of topping the list, described the moment as a “once in a lifetime experience.”
Mathew achieved a remarkable score of 99.00% with a total of 594 marks. The 16-year-old student from Kerala, who was born and raised in Dimapur, credited his success to God and his mother, who has been a constant companion throughout his journey.
He also expressed gratitude to his school teachers and the faculty of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Dimapur.
Maintaining consistency in his study routine was crucial for his success, Mathew noted, sharing that he initially studied for two hours, which he later extended to a four-hour study routine.
Starting from February, he gradually increased his study time to six to eight hours. Consistency is the key, he reiterated.
His aspiration is to become an astronomer, and he plans to pursue the science stream in his hometown in Kerala.
In his free time, he enjoys sketching, playing basketball, watching movies, and surfing the internet.
Arti Kumari from Ram Janaki Higher Secondary School, Dimapur secured the second position in the state with an impressive score of 98.50% and a total of 591 marks, just three marks short of securing the top position.
Kumari explained her simple study routine, stating that she studied for two to three hours and utilised the rest of her time to learn from various YouTube channels, which played a significant role in her success.
She mentioned that YouTube channels such as Edumantra and CA Naresh Aggarwal were instrumental in helping her grasp concepts. Once the concepts are clear, she believes that learning becomes “very easy.” She plans to continue her studies in the same school, pursuing the commerce stream.
Kumari aims to become an actuary and intends to pursue actuarial science in the future.
She expressed her gratitude to God, her teachers, school authorities, and her family, who have been supportive since the beginning.
“We should have the will to achieve our dreams and when we have that will, others will automatically support us in our goal,” she added.
Sneha Das from Little Flower School, Chümoukedima secured the third position with a pass percentage of 98.33%. Although she did not maintain a specific study routine, she ensured that she studied with concentration.
She plans to pursue the science stream and attributed her success to God, her teachers, principal, family, and friends. Her mantra in life is to study while also enjoying other activities and learning.
