The newly constructed dahou (amphitheatre) of the Chiechama village was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio at Chiechama village on January 14.
Speaking on the occasion Rio urged the villagers to preserve, maintain and utilise the dahou in the best interest and welfare of the villagers.
He pointed out that Morungs in the past has been a key institution of the Nagas and a center for social life of both the young and old wherein good values, traditions, customs, beliefs etc are being taught and learnt.
Likewise, Rio said, the villager should make the best use of dahou for games and sports, promoting customs and traditions and other social gatherings.
Appreciating the Chiechama village for this project, he maintained that this type of construction can be made possible only through the cooperation and unity of the citizens of the village.
Emphasising on the importance of preserving Naga cultures and traditions, he pointed out on the need to incorporate Naga traditional motifs and designs in construction of gates and houses. Stating that tourists come to the state to revel and understand more about the Nagas unique way of life, Rio urged the villagers to continue to preserve and promote their own customs and traditions for the posterity.
Presenting the construction report, Er Kezhazelhou Theünuo, convenor, Dahou Building Committee said the proposal was made in 2019 wherein the Ministry of Tribal Affairs sanctioned in the same year in the month of March.
However, due to the pandemic the work was stalled and the construction was restarted on August 2021. The amphitheatre, he informed has a seating capacity of 1700 and that some works are yet to be completed.
Chiechama Village Council chairman, Mhalezolie Metha assured to utilise the dahou for promoting the growth and development of the village particularly towards promotion of culture and traditions.
The amphitheatre was inaugurated with a prayer pronounced by Rev. Levi Rio, Pastor, Christian Revival Church, Chiechama Village while traditional blessings was pronounced by Pukuolie Chadi, Head GB.
Meanwhile, speaking on behalf of the Chiechama village, Mhalezolie Metha, Chairman CVC prayed for the good health of the Chief Minister.
Construction of amphitheatre at Chiechama Village was proposed in 2018. The detailed project report amounting to Rs 200.00 lakh was sanctioned by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
The present seating capacity of this amphitheatre is 1000 but with additional work, it will be increased to 1700. This amphitheatre will have facilities for multi-purpose activities like wrestling meet, cultural activity, public meeting, wedding, conference etc.
