After a period of seven days, a new turn of events has emerged wherein the Poultry Union Dimapur (PUD) announced on August 17 that they will be calling off their ongoing ban on import of poultry from Assam coming into Dimapur.

The decision was taken after the union held a meeting with the Dimapur Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Mhalo Humtsoe at the DC office on Thursday. This was also attended by the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) and other officials.

PUD General Secretary, Keyigwalunga said that after taking due consideration of the plight of the people and with assurances from the government to take up the matter with sincerity, they had called off the ban. Moreover, the main individual who had been accused of operating the syndicate system from Karbi Anglong district had denied his involvement in this issue as well.

On this note, the general secretary had maintained that the union would be carefully monitoring the supply of poultry coming into Nagaland once the ban is lifted from tomorrow (August 18). “If in case there is any indication of disruption from Karbi Anglong side then we will be compelled to re-impose the ban again,” he said.

The union further asserted of its standing resolution that no third-party influence should come in the way of the poultry business of Nagaland. PUD had imposed the ban on August 10 after allegations had emerged that a syndicate was operating from the border region in Karbi Anglong, Assam, whereby poultry supply of Nagaland was also affected.

It was also learnt that the Dimapur DC had forwarded a letter to its Karbi Anglong counter-part on August 10; however they were yet to receive a reply on this matter.
