Kohima, August 21 (MExN): As Nagaland grapples with the challenges posed by the monsoon, deteriorating road conditions have become a major concern especially in rural and far flung areas.
Responding to this, the two villages Losami and Losatephe voluntarily repaired the PWD road (British road) leading to District Head Quarter Phek on August 13.
The two villages took up the task voluntarily with the hope to make it easier for the commuters to ply along the stretch.
Along with 550 locals, dumper truck and three excavators were engaged to complete the repair work from Losatephe village to Kabokere under Losami jurisdiction without any assistance from the concerned contractor and government.
It is pertinent to mention that this road was long neglected by the department as the work charge labourers were terminated in February 2021.
In 2020 a contract was given to M/S Naga Construction under PMGSY Scheme but due to poor workmanship with no proper drainage, the 14 km black top road lasted only for few months after which no renovation or repairing work was carried out. This caused a lot of hardship for those commuters who come to District Headquarter, Losami Village Council Chairman Zechete Mekrisuh stated in a release received here today,
In this regard, the two village councils urged the concerned department to give more attention and appoint the work charge labourers at the earliest “so that the public road is well maintained.”
