DG Assam Rifles graces cultural programme at Kisama

The 3rd day of Hornbill festival began with various cultural performances on 3th December 2017. The occasion was graced by Lieutenant General, Shokin Chauhan, AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM, Director General, Assam Rifles as the Chief Guest, at Kisama village.

Addressing on the occasion, the Chief Guest encouraged the people of the State to promote and preserve the unique culture and traditions of the Nagas for the future generation.

The different cultural performances of Naga Indigenous  items included-  Angami folk song (Tsiadou PHFE), Konyak folk Dance (Shuleipe), Ao Tenem Sungjok (Steps of the Hornbill), Rengma Rhacho (Indigenous Game), Pochury (Shakvudow), Chakhesang  Traditional Wrestling, Chang Lo-Chia (Gents song), Sumi Aphilo kuwo (War Dance) and Kuki -Khulkon Lam.

In the evening session, the various cultural performances were, Lotha- Woro Juhre Ojurhe (dance), Kachari- Bal Maijai (folk dance), Yimchunger- Reku Lukhun (Beheading Enemy’s Head), Zeliang- Herie Lim (Hornbill Dance), Phom -Kahsho Asho (folk song), Garo- Jaktong Sika (Traditional Game), Khiamniungan- Noklie and Sangtam (Merry folk dance). The event was organized by the Department of Art and Culture and the Chief Host was Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, C.Apok Jamir.

 

Great Hornbill run culminates 

Participants of the 7th Hornbill Half Marathon and Great Hornbill Run at New Secretariat Jn. on December 3,2017.

The 7th Hornbill Half Marathon & Great Hornbill Run was flagged off at 7 a.m at new Secretariat plaza junction, Kohima. This event was organized by 3EN (Elite Entertainment Enterprise).

A total number of 78 male and 5 female participants took part in the event and they covered a distance of 22 km from New Secretariat junction, culminating at the same venue. In the male category, the 1st place was bagged by I. Mosa (1.08.54 seconds) who walked away with a cash prize of Rs.50,000, 2nd and 3rd places by Pache and Mhasekho with a cash prize of Rs 20,000 and Rs.10,000 respectively. In the female category, Shyamali Singh (of 1.28.00 seconds) won the first prize and was awarded with a prize money of Rs.50,000. The 2nd and 3rd winners were Tsuchoi. T and Mary Chuzho and was awarded with a cash prize of Rs 20,000 and Rs.10,000 respectively. The participants were also given certificates for the event.

 

Cycle rally ‘a step towards conservation of the environment’

As part of the 18th Edition of Hornbill Festival 2017, ALAPHRA group organised the 6th edition of Cycling Rally on 3rd December 2017. Twenty two young enthusiastic athletes dedicated themselves and took part in the Rally.

The Nagaland Cycling Association (NCA), Secretary Rickey Ozukum flagged of the rally from the Directorate of Tourism. In his speech he mentioned that due to the ongoing exams in schools and colleges, many people could not participate in the rally. He also hoped that in the near future tourists from other parts of the country would also take part in the rally. This event was initiated to encourage the younger generation for a healthier lifestyle and a step towards conservation of the environment.

 

Parliamentary Secretary Khekaho Assumi declares HIMF open

Parliamentary Secretary for Youth Resources and Sports and Music Task Force Advisor, Khekaho Assumi declared the Hornbill International Music Festival open on 1st December 2017, at the Dimapur District Sports Complex.

The music festival started off with high spirit where music lovers from all parts of the town and the country gathered at the venue, despite the chilly winter. The appearance of Padmashree Kailash Kher, one of the most popular Bollywood singers sent the crowds into frenzy and loud cheers. He belted out songs including Toba Toba, Bahubali, Alah ke Bande and also invited Alobo Naga on the stage to sing with him a song which was mixed with few lines of Nagamese lyrics adding more fun and excitement with their impromptu performance. Kailash also sang Tu Jaane Na which was dedicated to Parliamentary Secretary Khekaho’s deceased son.

Music institutes including Margaret Shishak school of Music, Nagaland Conservatory of Music, the Institute of Music Education and note Grid Music School and Media Studio also added more colours with their performances.

Popular legendary Naga singer, Methaneilie added more fun and excitement with his popular Nagamese songs, Nagaland city Kuribole and Whiskey Whiskey. He also sang a Hindi song titled Jhumroo, a rendition of famous Hindi Singer, Kishore Kumar.

Surfira Band; a group of talented engineers managed and groomed by Kailash Kher also mesmerized the crowd by signing some popular Bollywood songs.

Alobo Naga featuring DJ Amar also kept the crowd on their toes with his performance. Differently abled and talented singer, Ajungla also presented a Christmas song.

Earlier, Director, Music Task Force, Gugs Chishi gave an introduction of the Music Festival. The programme was compered by Zehovire Kechu while the event was managed by Concord Linx in collaboration with Music Task Force, Government of Nagaland. Day 2 of HIMF will feature many renowned artists including Sharavi Yadav winner of reality singing show Stage II 2016.
