The Ongpangkong Mungdang honored its distinguished achievers who have cleared the prestigious Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examinations with the Zünket Naklu honor during a ceremony held at Aongza Ki in Mokokchung on December 14.
Ongpangkong, one of the six ranges of the Ao tribe, consists of 18 villages. Over the years, 12 individuals from the range have successfully cleared the UPSC, although two of them have since passed away.
Prof Lanusashi Longkumer, convener of the Zünket Naklu Committee, explained that the award aims to honor these individuals, express gratitude, and inspire the youth to pursue excellence. He highlighted that the recipients were presented with a Chabili made of silver, symbolizing the rewards of hard work and wealth earned by their forefathers.
The event featured Dr P Kilemsüngla, a former member of the UPSC, as the keynote speaker. In her address, Dr Kilemsüngla praised the recipients for their accomplishments, noting that they were chosen from many to serve the nation at the highest level. She reminded them of their immense responsibility to serve all citizens and emphasized the importance of standing for truth in an era where it is often undermined. “When you stand for truth, you may gain many enemies, but if you remain firm, you will succeed,” she stated.
She also emphasized the need for collective effort in addressing the challenges of a rapidly changing world. She encouraged the honorees to lead society with humility and to remain anchored in faith, expressing hope that they would inspire others to excel.
Among the recipients of the Zünket Naklu honor, Alemtenshi Jamir (IAS), C. Lima Imchen (IPS), and Aotula T. Imchen (IPS) expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating that such honors motivate them to strive harder and serve the people better.
The ceremony also featured the presentation of the Naklu Song, written by T. Senka and composed by Temsuyanger Jamir. The Zünket Naklu honor was first conceptualized during a previous Ongpangkong Mungdang Conference, and this event marked its maiden conferral.
