Yimrup & Chimonger celebrate 15 yrs of peace

In a poignant celebration of reconciliation and unity, Yimrup Model Village hosted the Akhüm (Khüm) Lüm or Feast, marking the 1st Quindecennial Meet with Chimonger Village under the theme ‘Reminiscence of the Peace Talk and Strengthening of Bonds.’ The event reflected on the journey from conflict to kinship between the two communities.

The program opened with a Bible reading and invocation by Athrongse, Secretary for Church & Mission at the United Sangtam Baptist Lithroti Ashimükhong, setting a solemn tone to the gathering.

Chubalimba, President of the Yimrup Model Village Citizen’s Union, delivered the welcome address, noting that the day was more than a formal reunion. “It is a reminder of the peace that was forged with effort and prayer, and the bond that continues to grow.”

The meeting drew emotional and reflective remarks from guest speakers. Rev Dr Chingmak Kejong, Secretary of the Eleutheros Christian Society, spoke of healing and rebuilding relationships. “True reconciliation is not an event but a commitment,” he said, urging the communities to stay grounded in mutual respect and forgiveness.

Rev Yapang Mollier, officiating Executive Secretary of Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang, encouraged participants to nurture the legacy of peace. “Let this meeting be a living testimony of what unity can look like.”

Speeches from local leaders highlighted the shared history and future aspirations. Yanghose Sangtam, Head GB of Chimonger, expressed gratitude for the path taken. “We have chosen peace, and that choice must echo beyond today.”

Noksang Sangtam, President of the Chimonger Citizens’ Union, added, “The bitterness of the past should never outweigh the sweetness of friendship we now share.”

Also speaking were Thsatsase, Village Council Chairman; L. Tochi Chang, former president of the Yimrup Model Village Citizen’s Union; NY Choba Chang, President of Chang Khulei Setshang; L SangkamWongto, Head GB of C/Khel Tuensang Village; K Aliba Sangtam, President of United Sangtam Likhum Bumji; and N Kaimang, President of Tuensang Village Citizens’ Union. Each emphasized the importance of continued dialogue, trust-building, and cultural connection.

The gathering was punctuated by performances, including a special song by SON 4 TTBL and a choral presentation by the Yimrup Baptist Lashong Choir, which added a tone of celebration to the reflective atmosphere.

Rev Achu, Executive Secretary of Chang Baptist Lashong Thangyen, closed the official program with a brief sermon and benediction, calling the day a “spiritual reaffirmation of brotherhood.”

The formal gathering concluded with a communal feast, symbolizing the unity and goodwill between the two villages that once stood divided, now joined in fellowship and shared memory.
