Night curfew, other restrictions to be reimposed

Staff Reporter DIMAPUR, JAN 8 (NPN) : With Covid-19 cases recording a sudden jump across the country, the State government has decided to declare “yellow alert”. In this regard, the home department would be issuing a fresh SOP.

Highly placed sources confirmed that this was decided at the meeting of the High Powered Committee (HPC) on Covid-19 chaired by chief minister Neiphiu Rio, held at Rhododendron Hall, Police Complex, Chümoukedima on Friday.

Under the graded response action plan, “yellow alert” or ‘level 2’ is imposed when the Covid-19 positivity rate stays above 0.50 per cent for two consecutive days. The sample positivity rate in Nagaland as on January 7 stood at 1.32 per cent.

With the yellow alert, curbs like night curfew, closure of educational institutions, halved seating capacity in transport facilities, etc, among other things are enforced.

The state health department has categorized the Covid situational level into four colours/level– green (level 0), blue (level 1), yellow (level 2), orange (level 3) and red (level 4).

Further, the HPC also deliberated on the measures to be put in place amid fears of the highly infectious Omicron variant that has generated panic among the public across the country.

Talking to media persons after the meeting, health & family welfare minister Pangnyu Phom said the government has decided to put in place restrictions on social gatherings and also impose night curfews.

Asked if the government was planning to re-impose Covid-induced lockdown, he clarified that there was no discussion about that, but reiterated that restrictions would be put in place and strict adherence of Covid-19 appropriate behaviour would be ensured. He said the home department would be issuing a fresh SOP.

Supplementing the health minister, deputy chief minister Patton, who too was present, said the HPC discussed on attainment of 100% vaccination within a stipulated time.

For this, he noted that the committee would hold meetings with district and health authorities, adding that most of the legislators would also be involved in the mission to achieve 100% vaccination against Covid-19.
