Staff Reporter DIMAPUR, AUG 22 (NPN) : Western Sümi Baptist Akukuhou Küqhakulu (WSBAK) Aküvüto Thahekhu launched the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) clean election movement at Aküvüto Thahekhu under the theme “my vote, my future”, here on Saturday.
Delivering keynote address, WSBAK clean election movement convenor Kakheli Inato Jimo said that the sale and purchase of votes in election was dishonesty and a sin.
Kakheli said that it could undermine or even reverse the standard accountability relationship that was central to democracy and also hamper the development and trust in the political institutions necessary for democratic development and consolidation.
She cited the success story of Mizoram on the clean election movement and urged the believers for an upright electioneering system.
Meanwhile, Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) vice president Tohoshe Awomi highlighted the contribution of church towards the campaign and was hopeful that with the active participation the campaign would be practiced in the state.
In his speech, Western Sumi Kukami Hoho (WSHK) president Vihuto Yepthomi also spoke on the role of the church which had a huge responsibility in changing the minds towards practicing clean election.
Launching and prayer marking was carried out by WSBA, ES reverend Dr. Phughoto Sema who also read out the movement pledge.
The programme also highlighted signing of the pledge to practice clean election which was actively participated by WSBAK, WSH, WSKH, Western Sumi Totimi hoho, Western Sumi Students union, Western Sumi Youth Front and Western Sumi Sports Association.
At the programme, special song was presented by Sulika Swu and benediction prayer was said by DoME secretary, reverend Tovishe Sema.
The programme was chaired by DoYM secretary N Suhuto Chishi and invocation prayer was said by evangelist reverend Kaiho Awomi.
