The Yimpang Platoon Post, 7th NAP Bn under Bhandari sub-division in Wokha district was inaugurated by Y Patton, Dy Chief Minister (Home & Border Affairs), Government of Nagaland as the special guest on December 19. MLA 40 AC and Chairman SDPDB Bhandari, Achumbemo Kikon was also present during the occasion.
Addressing the inaugural programme, the Dy CM requested the concerned department to ‘deploy personnel in full strength while ensuring that individuals prone to indiscipline or engaging in substance abuse are not deployed.’
Making the appeal, Patton reiterated not to attach any security personnel who are into drugs or alcohol abuse as it will discredit the Constituency and reminded that ‘they are very strict towards such activities.’ ‘Any security personnel found doing such activities will be suspended,’ he cautioned.
He also urged the gathering to stop hunting. Meanwhile, on the appeal from the public in the area for a well-constructed all-weather Foothill road, Patton assured that ‘as soon as the proposal is sent, necessary action will be taken to provide good road.’
A DIPR report added that in his address the Dy CM informed that “the Yimpang Platoon Post, also known as ‘Ethung Post’ was operational until 1970 but had been abandoned due to certain factors. The restoration aims not only to maintain territorial protection but also to curb illegal activities, provide security, and ensure law and order in the State border areas.”
MLA Achumbemo Kikon in his speech said, “It is important and vital to install such outpost in order to provide protection to our people and our land as the 40 Bhandhari AC covers the longest distance of Assam and Nagaland border.”
Kikon stressed that with the absence of police force, there was no protection which resulted in the lost of large number of cultivable land and requested the Commandant “to attached atleast 30% security to the outpost to protect our land.”
Referring to the incident at Longtsiri village under Bhandari sub-division of Wokha district on the evening of April 25 last, where some workers of a public sector had allegedly tried to explore oil illegally, Kikon said, “When the issue was reported to Changpang Police station, there was no force.” He stressed that there is a need for more security force around the stretch to take control of those kinds of situations.
Also stressing on the strategic importance of the Yimpang Platoon Post’s geographical location, Kikon urged the Government to focus and develop the area to boost the economy of the state.
Kikon also acknowledged Y Patton for keeping his word and inaugurating the Yimpang Platoon Post, 7th NAP BN before the festive season as assured during the assembly.
Limasunep Jamir, IPS, IGP(R) Nagaland, in his short speech said that everyone should appreciate the two leaders present for the initiative and effort they have taken to install an outpost in the area.
He requested the Commandant to ensure full strength platoon and encouraged all the present security force to interact with the villagers, create unity and performed their duty without fail.
“If more infrastructures are provided especially in border areas, the Nagaland police are always ready to serve the people,” he affirmed.
Meanwhile, the DIPR report also added that the villagers of Yimpang requested Patton to establish more police out posts for the welfare of the people.
Earlier, the dedicatory prayer was offered by Rev K Renphamo Odyuo, Pastor, PBC, 7th NAP Bn BDI. The programme was chaired Randanbemo Ezong, NPS; welcome addresses was presented by Menangmeren, NPS; vote of thanks was delivered by Sentilong, NPS; benediction was offered by K Wilson Lotha, Associate Pastor, PBC, 7th NAP Bn BDI; and Hav Etongbemo Kithan, 7th NAP Bn presented a special number.
