Walkathon encourages voters to come forward and cast their vote

As part of Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activities and in view of the ensuing General Election to Lok Sabha 2024, a walkathon was held at Wokha Town on April 12. Led by the Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Wokha Ajit Kumar Rajan, the event encouraged the voters to come forward and cast their vote.
The walkathon kick off from Police point Wokha and culminated at NST junction. The event witnessed participations from students, teachers from Christian Model High School, Bethsaida School, Libemo Memorial School, Perennial School, St Peter School, NCC, Springdale School, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, and Government Higher Secondary School, Wokha and representatives from various departments under the district.
Addressing about the gathering, DC Wokha, Ajit Kumar Rajan emphasised that elections are a celebration of democracy belonging to all citizens and encouraged active, enthusiastic and voluntary participation from every individuals while stressing the importance of maintaining a clean and ethical electoral process. He also urged everyone to make their vote count, highlighting the importance of each individual’s votes.
Nuhuta Tunyi, Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) and Nodal Officer (SVEEP) in Wokha emphasised that the main objective of these programme is to spread awareness about the electoral process and ensure active participation from the electorate. Tunyi highlighted that these programme serve as the proper platform to educate new voters and students about their rights, encouraging the younger generation to exercise their voting rights responsibly to bring about positive change in society by electing suitable candidate.
The result of the essay and slogan writing contest held on April 5 at Libemo Memorial School, Wokha were declared at the event. The competition was organised in the High School and Higher Secondary Category.
Areni T Kikon of Class 9 secured the first, followed by Lireni M Ngullie of Class 9 in second and Lumchamo S Khuvung of class 10 in third. In the Higher Secondary Category, Epibeni Humtsoe, class 12 clinched the first while Tahara Begam of Class 12 secured the second and Mhachoni Ngullie, Class 12 in third.
