With new team in place, NCD urges DMC to tackle pressing issues in Dimapur

Dimapur, October 11 (MExN): Following the installation of a new team of councillors, the Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) today urged the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) to prioritise and address pressing issues affecting the city, including drainage management, garbage disposal, and the regulation of essential commodity prices.

The NCD and all the citizens of Dimapur witnessed the successful formation of the elected council after two decades with the hope that DMC would be primed to bring immediate change to Dimapur as promised by the councilors.

Everyone is longing see promises light of the day, stated a press release from the NCD General Secretary LK Peter Anal and Vice President Holuto Aye.

The NCD has always been advocating and pursuing the betterment of Dimapur and would like to highlight the management of drainage and garbage, the pressing need of the city, it said.

To achieve this important responsibility, DMC requires efficient and adequate workforce management, it said, highlighting that out of the 400 employees under the payroll of the DMC hardly 100 employees are tasked for sanitation work, while most of the staffs are assigned for clerical work.

Hence, a rationalisation exercise of f employees within the Municipal set up is urgently required, it added.

Departing from norms of previous tenures and successive administrators, the present team should put a complete ban on employment under DMC, the NCD opined.

When DMC spends more than a crore every month just for its staff’s salary, it puts a heavy dent to its exchequer and these excessive employees will swallow the funds meant for basic developmental works and other civic amenities, it maintained.

Meanwhile, the NCD also expressed concern over the high rate of essential commodities and urged the present DMC team to ensure that price regulations and rate control are maintained at par with the neighbouring state of Assam.

The NCD also reiterated its call for proper street lights and installation of CCTV at strategic locations for the safety of the people from all walks against anti-social elements.

The growth of Dimapur as the business hub of Nagaland can only be gauged by the security and peaceful atmosphere provided by the citizens cooperating with the administration and police, it said.

As work continues to transform Dimapur Railway Station into a “modern transportation hub,” the NCD also urged all individuals and communities to cooperate with the railway authorities.

As 2024 marks the marks the 75th anniversary of the NCD, it expressed hope that the celebrations will lead to a cleaner, better, and more peaceful Dimapur.
