The Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) will continue working towards what it set out to do, according to the ENPO’s new President, A Chingmak Chang. Chang told the media, on July 12, that he will start off from where his predecessor left.

The ENPO inducted a new team of executives, earlier this month, led by Chang as the President and M Honang Konyak as general secretary for the 2024-27 tenure. The formal “handing-taking” over programme took place in Dimapur on July 12, where the outgoing President, R Tsapikiu Sangtam handed over charge to the Chang.

Chang made no mention of the deadlock over the proposed Frontier Nagaland Territory promised by the Government of India. He said, “ENPO office bearers will come and go. The issue is not new, the issue stands and it is a continuous process. What my predecessor has left, we will carry on from that.”

Outgoing President, Sangtam maintained that irrespective of who holds the reins of leadership, the “movement” will continue. He welcomed Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio’s recent comment, assuring to continue reaching out to the ENPO bloc. He expressed confidence that the CM meant what he said “with a clear conscience.”

The Eastern Nagaland People’s Union Dimapur (ENPUD) had expressed resentment to the Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) & Chakroma Public Organisation (CPO) declaring opposition to state government nominating candidates from the ENPO area as government representatives in the municipal and town councils under their territorial jurisdiction. On this, Sangtam said that the ENPO stands by its decision against government nominees to the Urban Local Bodies in the six eastern districts.
