Dimapur, October 3 (MExN): Local church leaders and elders from villages around the Intanki National Park were sensitized on matters related to the conservation of wildlife on October 1, as part of the Wildlife Week celebration.
According to a press release, Director, Intanki National Park T Aochuba addressed the programme which was organized by the Forest Department at the Council Hall, Manglumukh. Emphasizing on the conservation of wildlife, he is said to have urged the local church leaders to spread the message in their respective churches. Wildlife too is a creation of God and the onus is on us to protect and save the beautiful creation of God, he said.
Stating that all living creatures are not meant only for consumption but can be conserved to beautify the earth and also to maintain the delicate ecological balance, he suggested that church leaders to dedicate a special Sunday for programmes and events that would educate the people on the significance of wildlife and the environment.
He also urged the people to work together with the department towards conserving and protecting Intanki National Park which will benefit the local communities in the future by means of eco-tourism activities in the region. He cited the example of the Kazaringa National Park in Assam and said that fringe communities are earning their livelihood comfortably because of extensive eco-tourism in the Park.
Short documentary videos on the birds and animals of Intanki National Park and the success story of Amur Falcon Conservation at Pangti were shown during the programme.
Members of Dimasa Baptist Church, Manglumukh; Baptist Church, Jalukiezangdi Village; Baptist Church, Jalukiekam Village; Baptist Church, Beisumpuikam Village; Presbyterian Church, Besiumpuikam Village; council members of Manglimukh Village; and staff of Intanki National Park attended the programme.
It was chaired by Thupuhu; welcome address delivered by Udil Haflongbar, Chairperson, Manglumukh Village Council and keynote address was delivered by R Aaron Yimchunger, Forest Ranger, the release stated.
