Staff Reporter DIMAPUR, SEP 25 (NPN) : Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dimapur, Rajesh Soundararajan on Friday inaugurated a water supply project at New Naga Cemetery, Zani village, Dimapur after a dedicatory prayer by sr. associate pastor, Lotha Baptist Church Dimapur, Yanbemo Lotha.
The project was sponsored by OSD to minister of transport, Niholu Ayemi in memory of late Ghokheto Chophy, former president of NCD, at an estimate cost of Rs. 3.5 lakh.
Delivering the inaugural speech, special guest, DC Rajesh Soundararajan stated that the inauguration of New Naga Cemetery was the most needed and considered it as God’s blessing for the people of Dimapur.
In regards to the pandemic, he lauded the humanitarian activities carried out by NCD, and added that the pandemic will be able to manage not only by government bodies, but through collective response and supports of many organizations, churches and individuals.
He also lauded sr. associate pastor, Lotha Baptist Church Dimapur, Yanbemo Lotha, for his tremendous tasks carried out by him during the pandemic by conducting funeral services for Covid deceased patients buried at the cemetery. He maintained that the pastor at one time spent more time at the cemetery compared to that of the time spent in the Church.
DC further assured Rs. 1 lakh from District Task Force, to assist those needy people who could not afford burial cost of the cemetery.
A short speech was also delivered by OSD to minister of transport, Niholu Ayemi, whereby he stated that the cemetery was for the whole public of Dimapur, and urged that one should not only wait for the government but grasp the opportunity to help the society.
He also urged NCD to look into those family members who were not in financial position to cover the costs of burial.
Delivering the introductory speech, president, NCD, Etsungmomo Kikon stated that land (New Naga Cemetery) was purchased by state chief minister, Niphieu Rio and handed over to NCD for the citizens of Dimapur.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by general secretary, NCD Thsapongkhyu Sangtam.
A short speech was also delivered by Hoshili K Ghokheto Chophy, wife of late Ghokheto Chophy, and vote of thanks was delivered by vice president (admin), NCD, Holuto Aye.
