Mount Hermon Higher Secondary School, Kohima observed the Founders’ Day at the Capital Cultural Hall, Kohima on November 8. Addressing the occasion as the chief guest, Shanavas C, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Kohima stressed on development of the education section in Nagaland.

Although Nagaland state was nearing 60 years completion of its statehood, Shanavas C lamented that development in various sectors still saw many lacuna. He made the comment. “We can say a country is developed when it can provide free education and health care services to its people with good quality which is not taking place here in Nagaland. While basic amenities are worried here, the world has gone to device major technology,” he observed.

Shanavas said that coordinated effort of the government and private sector was required where education need to be put in good use. ‘Unless education sector is developed, the ensuing decades will not see progress,’ he stated.

Opining that a mentality prevailing in the state among the masses was to get a government job irrespective of any qualification in comparison to any post even if it was a Grade-V Post, Shanavas called the students to have vision to get qualified and aim for what one’s qualification is. He said 10% of the population of Nagaland were government servants which is not a healthy sign for any state.

The DC Kohima asked the school to produce quality outcomes stating, “Success of schools is not measured by toppers but by producing citizens for its state.”

Also calling the school for cooperation and teamwork, he assured that the administration will provide assistance and help in case of any developmental features introduced in the near future.
