H Khehovi Yeputhomi, intending candidate from 33 Suruhuto Assembly Constituency and current Advisor for Tourism, Art & Culture claimed that an unknown individual had made a doctored video of him with the intent to blackmail and demand money.
Announcing it via his official Twitter handle at around 12:21 AM on Wednesday, the Advisor stated that he has lodged a complaint against the phone number which had contacted him. He also requested the police authorities to find the culprit at the earliest.
“I have been active on social media platforms to connect with my fellow citizens and interact with them. However, in order to defame my reputation, especially with regard to the upcoming election, an unknown miscreant has edited my video with an adult video with vulgar scenes,” his tweet read.
In the tweet, Khehovi had tagged Rupin Sharma, Director General of Police (DGP) Nagaland, who promptly responded: “Will follow up with you to get additional information and investigate.”
When contacted, the DGP told The Morung Express that the police had received the complaint from Yeputhomi and a case was filed at Suruhuto police station, Zunheboto. Based on the seriousness of the crime the police will be investigating the matter, he added.
Attempts to contact the Advisor or his team were unsuccessful at the time of filing of this report.
