Unite against ragging: NU observes anti-ragging week

LUMAMI, AUGUST 17 (MExN): As part of the Anti-Ragging week, Nagaland University hosted a program on the theme “Unite against Ragging,” at the I. Ihoshe Kinimi Hall, Lumami on August 16 with Prof Jagadish Kumar Patnaik, Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University as the chief guest.

In his address, Prof Patnaik highlighted the university’s exceptional track record, noting with pride that no cases of ragging have been reported since the institution’s establishment. This achievement underscores Nagaland University’s steadfast commitment to ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all its students, he asserted. 

He also extended a warm welcome to the new students, reassuring them that their time at the university will be both memorable and enriching.

Prof Wangshimenla, Dean of Student Welfare and Chairman of the Anti-Ragging Committee, gave an overview of the week’s activities. 

Attendees were then engaged by two thought-provoking lectures on anti-ragging delivered by Dr Kuldeep Singh Panwar, Associate Professor, Department of Law, and Dr Ramita Sougrakpam, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology.

Activities during the Anti-Ragging Week included various competitions aimed at promoting awareness and engagement. The winners were announced by Dr Pitheli K. Jimo, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology. 

Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Dr Gyati Yam, Assistant Professor, Department of Forestry and Convenor. The event was chaired by Repakaba Tzudir, a student of the university. Vote of thanks was pronounced by Dr. Sungkum Jamir, Medical Officer and Member of the committee.
