KIPHIRE, MAY 10 (MExN): Two Myanmar citizens who made illegal entry inside India without the Free Movement Regime (FMR) permit into Kiphire district via Indo-Myanmar border were expelled from the Indian Territory following an expulsion order issued by the Foreigners Registration Officer.
A press release issued by Addl SP & PRO, Kiphire Police informed that the Superintendent of Police cum FRO, Kiphire district expelled the two Myanmar citizens because they didn’t carry FMR permit.
FMR permit is a document which allows the people living along the Indo-Myanmar border to travel 16 kilometers across the boundary without Visa restrictions on both sides. However, FMR violations are often reported along the Indo-Myanmar border. Henceforth, any such violations in Kiphire district will be dealt strictly as per legal provisions, the SP has warned.
She further stated that India practices the concept of ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ or ‘Guest is our God’ and Kiphire police welcomes guests from Myanmar’s border FMR regime who are kith and kin to the people living on the other boundary in India.
However, to enter the Indian Territory, a valid FMR is required and has therefore requested the village councils and civil society organizations to sensitize the people living on the Indo-Myanmar border about the permit.
The SP has also requested the border guarding force and village guards to keep strict vigil along the Indo-Myanmar border to prevent any unauthorized ingress into the Indian Territory.
