The Tsadang Village Council organized celebration of Mungmung festival of the Sangtam Nagasat Tsadang village in Tuensang on September 2 with R Sethrongchem, ex candidate from 52 Longkhim-Chare Assembly Constituency as the special guest. He was accompanied by village council chairpersons from nearby villages, and many other dignitaries.
On the occasion, the special guest stated that Tsadang village was known as one of the bravest and a warrior village among the Sangtams, and asserted that they should not forget the good works of their ancestors.
“Mungmung being one of the most important feast among the Sangtams practiced and carried over to us from generation to generation; we must preserve our culture, identity and uphold and cherish and leave a good example for the younger generation,” he stated.
According to Sethrongchem, at present Longkhim-Chare area is one of the most ‘deplorable’ areas in the state; he underscored the importance of differentiating between leaders and politicians.
“Choose a good leader, who is charismatic in quality, with great appeal, and with a vision to guide and lead towards the brighter side,” he told the gathering.
Terming ‘jealousy’ as one of the stumbling blocks in the present society, he further called on the educated people to come together for one another leaving aside favouritism, nepotism and personal differences to bring changes in the society, area and in the village.
The event was chaired by L Thsaropi, Secretary, Tsadang Village Council while the invocation was spoken by T Khingkhamong, Deacon, Tsadang Village Baptist Lithro.
A special number was presented by Tsadang Students’ Union and followed festive welcome address by Thepitsaba, Head Barrick, Tsadang village.
Meanwhile, Selongchem, GB elaborated and demonstrated the history and the significance of the festival.
In the cultural event, folk dances Nengmüshokhi by Nungsu Hao mülong, Lu Hao Thsanung by Sangcheh Hao mülong and Hao Thsanung by Naropi Hao mülong were performed.
Men’s cultural troupe from the Tsadang village also performed an exuberant mix of different folk dances of the Sangtam Nagas.
The event ended with villagers participating in various traditional games and sports organized by the village council.
