Triple murder over ‘missing mobile phone’ shocks Dimapur

Dimapur woke up to a shocking triple murder Monday morning at a residential-cum-business complex in the heart of the town. Two of the victims were Nagas, while the other was a Karbi.

 

Police refused to divulge the identity of the suspect/s responsible for the triple murder, except to confirm that the killers and the victims were all working as waiters at Hotel City Inn at Eros Lane, Dimapur. But sources said police suspects involvement of two colleagues of the victims, both Karbis, who are absconding.

 

According to police, the triple murder was reported at around 8 am and when the police reached the scene of crime, they found three male dead bodies with multiple injuries inflicted by a Naga dao (machete) and iron rods.

 

The deceased have been identified as Tateutui Newme, son of Agie of Nchen village, Peren district, Tia Sangtam, son of Tangshsenju of Tethuze village under Kiphire district and Hori Teron of Gaitor village, Karbi Anglong, Assam.

 

Commissioner of Police, Limasunep said that a criminal case has been registered under East Police Station and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed under Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) for a thorough and expeditious investigation.

 

Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased were attacked in their sleep by the assailants, with a Naga dao (machete) and iron rod and escaped from the window of the bathroom from the 6th floor by tying bed-sheets.

 

The incident took place between 2:30 am to 3 am, police said.

 

Commissioner of Police confirmed that the suspected assailants as well as the victims were working as waiters at Hotel City Inn at Eros Lane, Dimapur.

 

The motive behind the murder is suspected to be revengeful act resulting from a quarrel over a missing mobile phone. He said the identities of the assailants have been ascertained and all efforts are on to nab the absconding accused.

 

Stating that Dimapur has been largely peaceful, the Commissioner of Police appealed to the citizens to remain calm and not to panic. He said this is a ‘crime’ that can be attributed to personal differences and enmity and seems to be the handiwork of delinquent minds. He further assured that the perpetrators would be brought to book and no stones would be left unturned to meet the ends of justice.

 

Police said after completion of the post mortem, the dead bodies were handed over to their relatives after observing all formalities.

 

Meanwhile, the Zeme Council Dimapur and Sangtam Union Dimapur have demanded the arrest of the culprits within a time bound period of 24 hours from the date of the murder and warned that they would be compelled to take its own course of action.

 

In a letter to the Deputy Commissioner Dimapur, both the organizations narrated about the murder of the three prsons and stated that it is a clear case of cold blooded murder which is clearly visible from the nature of injuries on the vital parts of the victims caused by sharp weapon.

 

Stating that the culprits are known to the victims, who were reportedly staying together in the same hotel and in the same room.

 

“It is also quite strange and peculiar to state that while taking away the lives of three persons by cutting their bodily organs including their neck, it is quite possible that the hue and cry between the victims and murderers would have surely taken place attracting the attention of the people from nearby place,” Zeme Council President, Ngauloibe, Sangtam Union President, Er Y H Sangtam and vice president, T Sepipe Sangtam stated.

 

They further stated not hearing such sound/noise of murder incident and noisy scene at the place of occurrence is next to impossible and the same is not acceptable to human perception.
