Translation can make Naga music and culture more universal: DGP

Director General of Police Nagaland, Rupin Sharma has opined that translation will make music and culture of Nagaland more universal and add value and acceptability in the rest of the country.

He was speaking as guest of honour at the ‘Musical Fiesta’ organized by the Akashvani Kohima organised as part of a prelude to the celebration of India’s 78th Independence Day at State Academy Hall Kohima this evening.

The special celebration was organized to honour the spirit of freedom and unity through showcase of music and cultural performances from the 15 tribes of Nagaland.

He suggested those who patronize music, art and culture in Nagaland that when you are singing, we have could have discription in English to explain the meaning of the song which can make music and culture of Nagaland more universal.

Sharma implied that it will enable to find more value and acceptability in the rest of the country.

The DGP said, translation may not be very challenging as it is evident that every tribe will have people to translate into common languages like Hindi and English.

As such, it will be more readable and approachable for the people in the country.

He said, music and dances are enjoyable which is accompanied by the beautiful voices, expression and feeling.

But without a common platform, it will be lost.

It will also be important not only for outsiders but among different tribes of Nagaland which may link to its similarities and significances.
The DGP opined that Nagaland is not only about daos and fighters but about the softness of people and the softness of voice which was displayed in the songs presented by people and it was because there was lot of love in the society.

He said, we need to strongly propagate love through music or art or not just Nagas being projected as warriors and added that these talents are soft commodity of export of Nagaland.

Assistant Director, Akashvani Office of the ADGP Content Guwahati Aseem Qazi said Nagas have rich expression and melody and expressed that we need to take our music in the international arena.

Apart from performances from tribes, artists from the state like DGP band, Colour keys, and Moko Koza performed in the evening.
